German Wine Wedding Preview << Kathrin + Jim >>
Have you ever been to the Mosel Valley in Germany? I heartily recommend it. A patchwork of lush green vineyards clinging to the undulating slate slopes that descend into the wide meandering expanse that is the Mosel River. The wine is out of this world. The food matches it. And the people too – so hospitable and full of joy. And I was lucky enough to spend a long weekend there shooting an epic wedding. Kathrin and Jim already got married in Chicago back in November (beautifully shot by Emilia Jane) but they wanted to do it all again in Kathrin’s village. The German wedding still featured Kathrin’s signature style – classic elegance – but with a subtle rustic twist. I’ll be sharing their pre-wedding celebrations tomorrow (a hayride through the vineyards to introduce their International guests to the area) but today I am focusing on the wedding itself. Kathrin turned her stunning Rosa Clara gown into a skirt and teamed it with a beautiful silk cami and chapel length veil. Jim swapped his tux for sharp new suit. Guests indulged in Kathrin’s favourite German tradition – Kaffee und Kuchen. And the wine flowed. Oh yes indeedy. Including the signature wine of the day – a sweet riesling from Kathrin’s birth year. The day was beautiful – fabulous weather, lovely people, great food, a boat trip along the Mosel, dancing under the stars… I feel so deeply honoured to have been able to play a small part in such a magical weekend. And I cannot wait to head back to the area next year – not least to pick myself up some more of that wonderful Kranz wine!
