Nottingham Council House Wedding Fair < < chit chat > >
Oh! My! Gosh! Yesterday I did my first wedding fair. My very first one. For reals. I shared a lovely little corner of the Members Lounge of Nottingham’s Council House with Monty Manatee stationery for The Autumn Wedding Fair. How gorgeous is that building? Our room in particular was oh so pretty. Gorgeous book cases, intricate wooden paneling and absolutely glorious daylight streaming through the huge, old windows. I hope I get to shoot a wedding reception in there sometime soon. It would be utterly dreamy. But I digress. Back to the wedding fair. I only found out that they had opened up this additional room and thus found a space for us about 10 days ago which is why I’ve been so quiet. I had an awful lot to do. I’d never decorated a stall before. I didn’t even have any samples to show. Eek. Cue ordering lots of prints and asking my traditional album binder to make me up a couple of my favourite designs rather swiftly so that I could display my work. There have been some late nights, I can tell you. In fact, I pulled an all nighter on Saturday in the end so it’s amazing I didn’t fall asleep standing up on the day itself. But thankfully chatting with so many lovely brides to be kept me alive and full of energy. That and the numerous sweeties/cakes I ate. Ahem. It wouldn’t really represent me very well if my stall didn’t feature sweet treats, really, would it?
The good news is, it went well. At least, I think it did. I was really happy with the presentation (lots of pretty things, quite a few handmade by yours truly) and I certainly stood out as being just that little bit different from the other 8 (eight!) photographers who were exhibiting. I know this because lots of the people who took time to chat with me said as much. Including some of the photographers themselves (and lovely to meet them it was too)! The aesthetic of my stall seemed to have the desired effect, therefore, and meant that I was spotted by lots of people who like my sort of thing. Hurrah. Sadly, it got so busy at times I didn’t get chance to speak to everybody in person but I’ve had a couple of e-mails already and if anyone else who picked up a card fancies a proper natter about their day and how I can compliment it, please get in touch and we’ll suss out having a cup of tea or some such. And cake. Obviously.
My partner in crime for the day, Sara of Monty Manatee fabulous wedding stationery fame, enjoyed herself too and even picked up a few orders on the day. Hurrah. I’m not surprised though. Her stuff is bloody lovely and so different from anything else I’ve seen on the market. I’ll be showcasing some of her handiwork next week actually because she is working with me on the wonderful (fingers crossed) winter themed, DIY centred wedding shoot I’m planning for later this week. Other vendors involved include the utterly lovely Chloe of Adore by Chloe blog (plus a wedding stylist & hand crafter extraordinaire if ever there was one), Grace Couture bridal boutique in West Bridgford and Pearls for Lily bespoke jewellery. In some ways, I can’t wait. But, oh my word, I’ve so much to do between now and then. Hand crafted goodness sure is pretty, but boy does it take time. Good job there are some talented peeps out there available to help a bride-to-be (or in this case, a slightly overwhelmed photographer) in their time of need. Tee hee.
Right, I’m going to crack on with my pretty making. Expect more on that as the shoot nears. For now I shall leave you with some piccies of the stall. My side and Sara’s because both were terribly pretty if you ask me. Not that I’m biased or anything. No no no…
Mine first:
And here is some of Sara’s work:
aw come on, i might be biased too, but i think you’re right we did have the prettiest stall he he
Wowzers! Good job, ladies! I wish I’d popped by now as I was in Nottingham on Sunday! ah well, it sounds like you were rather busy anyway! xxx
All the effect you put in definately made a difference to your stall, it looked awesome! My partner and I enjoyed chatting to you and loved your work and will definately be in touch nearer the time of our wedding, sadly we have to wait till 2013!
Any time you want to catch up with me, Beckie, just drop me a line or give me a call. Look forward to hearing all about your plans once they are all made! x
You did all that in 10 days?! Amazing!!!!! Really gorgeous, no wonder you wowed all the brides 😀
